Introduction to the conference

Following the success of the second International Conference on Mathematics Education (ICME) with the theme "Mathematics Learning and Instruction in the Digital Era" in 2023, Hanoi National University of Education and Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics are organizing the third conference with the theme "Beliefs and Values in Mathematics Education" in November 2025."

Topics


Submissions are welcome on, but not limited to, the following topics, organized into three key groups:
Topic 1: Core Beliefs and Values in Mathematics Education
This group explores the foundational beliefs and values that underpin mathematics education, examining their impact on various aspects of the field.
- Beliefs and Values in Mathematics Classroom Practice/Teaching and Learning: Investigating how beliefs and values shape classroom interactions, pedagogical approaches, and student learning experiences.
- Beliefs and Values in Mathematics Curriculum: Examining the values and beliefs embedded within mathematics curricula and their influence on instructional design and learning outcomes.
- Beliefs and Values in Mathematics Evaluation and Assessments: Exploring how beliefs and values influence the design, implementation, and interpretation of mathematics assessments, and their impact on student learning and motivation.
- Beliefs and Values in Mathematics Teacher Education: Analyzing how teacher education programs address and shape the beliefs and values of pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers.
- Beliefs and Values in Early Mathematics Education: Examining the development of mathematical beliefs and values in young children and the impact of early learning experiences.
- Beliefs and Values in Developing Mathematical Thinking Skills: Investigating the role of beliefs and values in fostering mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

This group focuses on the intersection of beliefs and values with technology and modern educational approaches in mathematics education.

- Learning Ecosystem in Mathematics Education: Examining the broader context of learning, including the interplay of formal and informal environments, technology, and community resources.
- Data Analytics and AI in Mathematics Teaching and Learning: Investigating the use of data analytics and artificial intelligence to personalize learning, provide feedback, and improve mathematics instruction.
- Blended Learning Innovations in Mathematics Education: Exploring effective models for blended learning that combine face-to-face instruction with online learning resources and activities.

Topic 3: Applied and Practical Mathematics Education
This group examines the application of mathematics to real-world problems and the development of practical skills, while also considering the underlying beliefs and values.
- Teaching Mathematics with a Practical and Applied Approach: Exploring strategies for teaching mathematics through real-world problems and applications, fostering relevance and engagement.
- STEM/STEAM-Oriented Mathematics Education: Examining the integration of mathematics within Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEM/STEAM) education initiatives.
- Developing Teaching Competency for Mathematics In-Service and Pre-Service Teachers: Focusing on enhancing the professional knowledge, skills, and beliefs of mathematics teachers to effectively teach applied mathematics.
